Gatwick Airport is to start providing direct flights to Costa Rica next month courtesy of Thomson Airways. From November 2nd, weekly services will run between the London travel hub and Liberia in Costa Rica, which is located between the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The new flights are accompanied by a range of holiday packages from Thomson, which has added Costa Rica as a new destination for this year. "Small but perfectly formed, Costa Rica is famous for its wonderful wildlife, lush landscapes and tropical beaches," the company explained, adding that it is a destination suitable for both "thrill-seekers and beach-lovers". The direct flights from Gatwick Airport will take around 11 hours 35 minutes. Gatwick Airport revealed recently that it experienced a dip in passenger numbers during September, which it said was due to the continuing effects of the economic downturn. However, the popularity of services to Africa and the Caribbean helped drive a 7.1 per cent increase in long-haul traffic.
